Kym Austin | Founder & Program Coordinator

Mother of 5, foster mother of 6, grandmother of 5, and step grandmother of 4. Kym has over 36 years experience working in state schools and as a governess in outback Queensland teaching students by correspondence. She has over 12 years experience as a primary school chaplain and 2 years experience working as a teacher aide to special need high school students. Kym has a Diploma in counselling, pastoral care and youth work. In 2012 she founded Mimi's House with her husband Grant Austin and is currently coordinating Mimi's House in its 7th year.

Jane Hockey is an educator and an advocate for the vulnerable. She has spent over ten years developing and leading special educational programs within the state high school system, where she worked to ensure students with disabilities were given the opportunity to meet their full potential and be able to participate on the same basis as others. She has spent the last 6 years working alongside the Mimi's House founders, Grant and Kym, to help build a strong program which has already seen over 200 children impacted.  



Simon Paech | Family Liaison

Simon, husband and father to six, has broad experience in both the education and humanitarian sectors. His professional background ranges from Atmospheric Science education in the United States to humanitarian work in Africa. Simon and his wife Aggie founded Aggie's Arts a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to partnering with impoverished families in Uganda and engaging them in developing economic independence through relationships, education and entrepreneurship. He has a passion for helping people who are hurting with a focus on understanding and alleviating the effects of poverty and trauma.


Fiona Rodriguez | Program Coordinator

Fiona, mother of four, is an experienced primary trained teacher who is passionate about seeing children equipped to reach their full potential. She has been involved in Mimi’s House as both a volunteer and staff member since the program began in 2012. Fiona believes it is a privilege to help each child unlock their uniqueness and strengths through the development of tools and skills that allow them to thrive in life.


Felicity Bennetts | Partnership Coordinator

Felicity is an educator who is passionate about seeing young lives transformed. She has worked for the last 10 years in both education and marketing and hopes to see the influence and scope of Mimi’s House increase. She brings her experience working in the not-for-profit sector to the Mimi’s House team in a marketing and fundraising capacity.


Chris Barlow | Advisory Board Director

Chris took over the role as Advisory Chair in late 2016 bringing with him significant experience in the social services sector. He has held frontline, corporate support and leadership positions in both government and non-government agencies, contributing to significant government policy reforms and having lead responsibility for policy, practice and compliance across a large human services organisation. As well as his professional experience, Chris is currently completing a PhD through UQ, exploring 'shared senses of purpose' between government and NFPs, and has also taught in governance and public policy.
